Past Continuous Tense

Past continuous tenses express situations, events or actions that started in the past and are still going on at the time of speaking. It is used to express an incomplete or unfinished action that started in the past.

You can also use past continuous tenses to describe an unfinished or ongoing event or action that got interrupted by another action or event.It sheds light on what was going on at some point in the past and can also be used to describe the background when writing a story in the past tense.

Example:

He was planning to marry her before she broke up with him.

She wasn’t dancing to the music.

I was going home when he called me.

She was trying to steal the money without knowing that I was watching her through my binoculars.

I was wondering if I could go home with you.
